How to convert audio to text

01

Add your recording

Drop in an MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC or FLAC file. A recording inside a video file works too: choose the full video or just its audio. You can leave the page once the upload has finished.

02

Read and search the transcript

Each passage shows its start time. Search for a word to see every passage that contains it, and turn timestamps off for clean reading.

03

Copy or download

Copy the text, or download TXT, SRT or VTT. Use the subtitle files in your video editor or player.

WHAT YOU GET

An audio to text converter built around the timeline.

  • Start times on every line, or clean text with timestamps turned off
  • SRT and VTT subtitles with transcript timings
  • Automatic language detection
  • Search inside the transcript and copy it in one click

Three formats

Plain text for notes and articles, SRT and VTT for video editors and players.

Find the moment

Search a word to see every passage that contains it, each with its start time.

Subtitles that line up

Exports use word timings when available, with segment timings as a fallback. Check the timing in your editor or player.

Audio transcription for podcasts and interviews

Upload the episode as it was exported: MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC or FLAC. The transcript keeps each passage’s start time, so it is easy to turn into show notes, timestamped quotes, a blog draft or an accessible text version. Check names and specialist terms before you publish.

From transcript to clips, without paying twice

When you uploaded a supported full video, choose Create clips from this recording. ClipSnitch reuses the upload and the transcript, suggests the moments worth sharing and frames the speakers in 9:16. It uses no extra minutes.

Questions about audio transcription

Which audio files can I transcribe?

MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC and FLAC, plus the sound of MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and M4V videos. Use recordings you have permission to process.

Can I transcribe audio to text for free?

Yes, within your monthly minutes. The Free plan includes 60 minutes a month, shared with clips and captions, and each minute of audio uses one minute, rounded up. If a transcription fails or finds no speech, the minutes are returned.

Can I convert an MP3 to text?

Yes. Upload the MP3 and download the transcript as plain text (TXT), with or without timestamps, or as SRT or VTT subtitles.

How accurate is the audio transcription?

Clear speech close to the microphone transcribes best. Background noise, music, people talking over each other and strong accents lower accuracy, so check names and specialist terms. For a noisy recording, try the free audio cleanup first.

Which languages can it transcribe?

The spoken language is detected automatically and the transcript is written in that language. Accuracy depends on the audio, accents and the language itself, so check names and specialist terms before you publish.

Does the transcript say who is speaking?

No. A transcript is the spoken words and when they were said, without speaker labels. Add names where you need them before you publish.

How long is a transcript kept?

As long as your plan keeps projects. Download the files you want to keep. Pricing lists the retention for each plan.
